Polar Express 200K - Dec 1st - Middletown, VA

The December Brevet of the Month will take place on the 1st of the month, beginning @ 7:00 a.m. from the Super 8 in Middletown, Va. This is an out and back route to Harrisonburg, Va that Bill Beck dubbed the Polar Express because of the weather at the first event on St Patrick’s Day. The out part of the route will be a preview of some of the roads that we will be using on the Shenandoah 1200K. The road to Harrisonburg is very scenic and wind could definitely play a factor in the difficulty of this brevet.

My wife and I may be coming up for the Polar Express. Anyone have any experience with the following inns?

    Lackawanna in Front Royal

    Carver House in Strasburg

    Waysidein Middletown

  2. Mark Brewer Says:

Wayside is expensive, but is about 1/2 a mile from the start. I don’t know the other places except to say that Front Royal is about thirty minutes away and Strausburg about fifteen. Why not stay at the Super 8 at the start? There is a Holiday Inn Express in Stephens City about fifteen minutes north of Middletown.

  3. Branson Says:

Thanks, Mark. My wife’s birthday is Sunday- and she doesn’t ride- so I’m looking for someplace cozy.

  4. Russell Morris Says:

Great ride everybody and I’m proud to claim my very first Latern Rouge award. May there be many more to follow. The slower you ride, the longer you ride.
